Serving music education on the western slope of Colorado for over 50 years.
Member: NAMM, NASMD, RPMDA, NAPBIRT, MTNA

You can count on Roper Music: We sell top quality brand name instruments and accessories and have a wide variety of print music all at competitive prices so parents know their student has the very best chance to succeed. Roper Music makes regularly scheduled visits to the schools during the school year, we will generally see every music director in our territory at least once every 2 to 3 weeks. We attend most of the festivals, contests, and honor ensembles that your child will be involved in throughout their young musical career. You can call on us for all of your musical needs. We are happy to ship if you are out of town, if we have what you need in stock it will ship the same day. We are also happy to special order, if we don't have it in the store we will do our best to track it down and get it in for you. We are easy to reach by phone, fax, or e-mail, we also have a clean, friendly, well-stocked store open 6 days a week.
The Rental Plan:
Why rent from us: Our rent to own program is very flexible. It provides you with the highest quality student instruments at affordable prices while earning credit toward the purchase of your own instrument. It also allows you time to decide if you want to continue with this particular instrument or try another. It also gives you the option at any time to return the instrument if it doesn't work out, no questions asked. A quality instrument in the hand of a student will give them a fair chance at getting serious rather than getting something just to get them by to see if they will continue. Parents will appreciate hassle-free instruments that aren't continually needing the attention of our wonderful repairmen. Teachers will appreciate being able to concentrate on the student and music, not problems with the instrument. All of our rentals include cases, mouthpieces, sticks, reeds, swabs, lubricants, rosin, bows - everything you need to get started.
Requirements: To rent an instrument you must have a current Colorado ID or Utah ID and you must be 21 years or older. We must have an original signed contract (not faxed) to deliver an instrument. We are happy to mail a contract to you, once it is received completely filled out and signed with down payment we can make arrangements for pick-up or delivery of the instrument.
How it works: We have two rental programs. The most common one is the rent to own program which means you may rent an instrument for as long as you wish and return it at any time as long as your rent is paid to date. You may rent the instrument until your contract is paid in full at which time you will own that instrument. Or you may purchase the instrument at any time during your rental for a discount. We ask for the first two months down at the time of delivery, the assigned rental fee is due each month for as long as you are renting the instrument.
On our small size orchestra instruments and our bell kit rentals we have a rent only plan where you can rent the instrument for as long as you like but that instrument is not for sale. You have the option to apply all of the principal you paid to a new like-kind instrument or you may apply 80% of the principal up to 24 months to any new instrument of same or higher value.
Reserve your rental: If you are concerned that Roper Music will run out of the instrument that you want at anytime you can reserve an instrument for rental. All of paperwork is exactly the same as the rent to own program, you still put the first 2 months down. The only difference is we don't start the rental until you pick-up the instrument, then we fill in the start date and the down payment begins (so your first payment wouldn't be due until 2 months from that date).
Maintenance: The instrument is covered under our maintenance program for as long as you are renting. We will do all labor pertaining to normal wear and tear by the student for free. Damage as a result of abuse or neglect will not be covered (we can usually tell the difference), the person who signed the contract will be billed for any charges to correct such damage. Our maintenance program does not replace parts - this includes strings, reeds, mouthpieces, sticks, bows, cases, etc. In the event you need a major part replaced, we would charge you for the part and do all of the labor free of charge assuming it was not a result of negligence.
What if I want to return my rental: If you are currently renting an instrument from us and would like to discontinue your rental contract, you may simply return it to Roper Music at the above address during business hours. If you choose to make arrangements to have the instrument picked up by our road representative or give the instrument to someone else to return for you, please understand that you are responsible for that instrument and the payments due until it arrives at our physical address.
Other Stuff:
Private Maintenance: A maintenance agreement is available on your privately owned instrument on a yearly basis. We will maintain the instrument in good playing condition for a yearly fee. For information on coverage see the maintenance section above. The instrument you wish to maintain must be brought in for an initial inspection and bought up to playing condition before we will maintain it. Pre-existing conditions will not be covered under this agreement. The fee for this plan will be determined by the make, model, and age of the instrument.
Repairs: Roper Music has both string and band instrument repairmen. We service our rental instruments, privately owned instruments, and most of the school owned instruments on the Western Slope. Our reputation is built on our shop putting out the highest quality repairs in a timely manner and we stand behind our work.
Insurance: Roper Music is not a licensed insurance agency, therefore we cannot provide insurance for the instrument you have in your possession. Often you can include it on your homeowner or renters insurance policy. Should the instrument become lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed beyond repair you are responsible for the balance due on your account.
Trading up: If your student is excelling in music and you would like to reward them with something a little nicer like a step-up instrument we have many options to choose from. You are welcome to purchase any of our step-ups for a discount or there is financing available. If you have been renting and would like to step-up to a like-instrument we will take all of the principle you have paid on your rental and apply it to the purchase of a new instrument.
Payment options: Roper Music has many payment options to fit almost any budget. We have a layaway option which requires 20% down and payment in full within 6 months. We have a 30-60-90 day payment option which requires 50% down and you make 3 equal monthly payments to pay the balance. There is a flexible finance agreement where you pay 20% down and finance the instrument over time, we usually keep these under 2 years. This allows you to determine what monthly payment you are comfortable with. The rent to own program is only available on entry-level instruments and is another affordable way to get started.
